Experience of Christ Some of the young people are impatient in the experience of Christ and complain about enjoying only a little of Him at a time. Do not try to experience too much of Him at once. Simply keep on experiencing Him and enjoying Him daily. Regarding the experience of Christ, we need to slow down and realize that it will take eternity to enjoy Him (pp. 64-65). What is the testimony of our meetings?...In our meetings we need to have some genuine testimonies of our experience of Christ and enjoyment of Christ. … My present concern for all the churches is that we would have the experience of Christ. … In the meetings we must have something real, solid, practical, convincing, and subduing (pp. 80-81). In chapter two Paul charged the Philippians to think the one thing. The one thing we need to think is forgetting everything of the past and stretching forth to pursue the goal of the best experience of Christ that we may receive the prize. Let us all think this one thing. We need to be occupied with how to be filled with Christ, and how to take the lead in the experience of Christ (p. 81). We all must pursue Christ in a persecuting way. We need to pray, "Lord Jesus, I intend to persecute You. All day long I shall be Your persecutor. I will compel You to be for me and to be my experience." We need to pray like this, telling the Lord that we shall persecute Him until He becomes our experience. If we do this, eventually we shall arrive at the goal and receive the prize (p. 183). Do not be troubled by things such as the playing of a tambourine in the meetings. Playing a tambourine is not our goal, prize, or enjoyment. Our enjoyment, experience, goal, and prize are Christ.… We do not insist on anything, and we do not oppose anything. If we take this way, we shall maintain a good spirit in the churches for the experience and enjoyment of Christ (p. 187). -All quotes taken from The Experience of Christ, published by Living Stream Ministry, Anaheim, CA, 1978. |
